白色恐怖vs彩虹恐怖 White Terror vs. Rainbow Terror
若提到蔣中正時期，自1949年起頒布《台灣省戒嚴令》，宣告全境實施戒嚴，臺灣警備總司令部等情治單位藉由特別刑法充當政府整肅異己的工具，造成台灣許多冤死、冤獄、傷殘，甚至人民的生命、財產、健康，以及心靈也遭受嚴重損害。
The Order of Martial Law, promulgated in Taiwan in 1949, was the reason for the loss of many lives as well as the damage to many properties. Those against the government were often locked behind bars. This is the period known as White Terror.
回到近期同志運動不斷，情緒激動的反對者進行言論表達或批評時，會聽到類似一句話：「最近都不能說反對同性戀，或同性戀讓人很噁心等話，不然會被說成歧視、霸凌，一點言論自由都沒有。」彩虹恐怖這個名詞就此產生，形容反同人士言論自由被打壓的處境。
Lately, the term Rainbow Terror has been coined to describe the situation where the anti-gay community claims that their freedom of speech is violated. Many of those against gay rights have been heard to claim that they have lost their freedom of speech because they are unable to make negative comments about the gay community for fear that they should be labeled as bullies or discriminators.
彩虹恐怖存在自私的良知 Selfishness, Not Fear
然而，使用"彩虹恐怖"無疑是合理化自私行為的一種說法：既想批評別人，又不肯被別人罵。若真的對同性戀或同性婚姻感到不滿，或者覺得噁心、不道德，盡可以去表達自己想法。然而，也必須同時接受不同立場與聲音，才有創造交集溝通的機會。而非挾怨地說，反對同性戀跟同性婚姻會被說歧視，感覺像活在彩虹恐怖的社會。
However, rainbow terror is undoubtedly a rationalization of selfishness. They want to criticize without being called bullies. Those who are unhappy about the gay community or same-sex marriage can feel free to express their opinions, but they should also respect different voices. This way, there can be communication. They should not simply accuse the gay community of so-called rainbow terror.
事實是如此嗎？沒有同志會因為你反對站出來打你，警察不會因你反對而抓你。先前，台北市長柯文哲接受專訪時表示：看到同性接吻不是很舒服，但人家喜歡關你屁事？會認為有彩虹恐怖是主因是不願意面對自己的良知，只想抱著偏見過活。自己的道德良知要自己負責。不要亂扣同志帽子。
When previously interviewed, Mayor Ke of Taipei City said that seeing two homosexuals kiss each other may cause discomfort, but whose business is it but their own? Claiming rainbow terror is just a way for those who want to live in their prejudice to disguise their discrimination.
